  • Fast Food - What Should You Be Eating?  By : Owen Scott
    Fast food is not good for you. Even the healthiest fast food can easily be outdone by preparing some fast and easy meals you can take with you wherever you go. If you do find yourself inside a fast food restaurant, should you eat or not?

    Never go without eating. It's actually much worse to skip a meal than to make a good choice at a fast food restaurant. Simply make a good choice, and you'll be okay.

    The first step you should take is to always plan ahead. If you're going to spend the day away from home, take some time the day before to get yourself some meals ready to take with you. If you didn't already know, you should be eating a full meal once every 3 hours or so. Short explanation: Protein only lasts around 3 hours in your body and your body needs protein to build muscle.

    When I spend the day away from home, I might take a few plastic shaker bottles with me. I fill them with protein and ground oats (simply stick some quaker oats in a coffee grinder). I then fill a few baggies with walnuts, almonds, and/or peanuts.

    You've got to add some veggies too! I like to cut up broccoli, cauliflower, all types of peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. I put them in a large baggie and they're ready to go. Combine them with the whey protein, oats, and walnuts and you have some perfect meals for building muscle and burning fat.

    If you didn't plan ahead, you must focus on making the best decisions when you find yourself at a fast food restaurant. If you're at McDonald's, what are you going to order? Let's talk about what not to order first. Never order french fries. Never order fast food hamburgers or fried chicken sandwiches. What do you order?

    A better choice would be a chicken salad with about a half pack of ranch dressing. Eat all the veggies in the salad. Don't take them off or order the salad without them. And always order a water. Never order a Coke or anything else. Drink water!

    If you know you're going to be eating fast food and have no other choice, get nutrition facts for that restaurant and make a good choice before you go. Then, you won't be tempted to order anything else. It's actually better to check nutrition facts and make yourself a little list at what you can have from certain fast food restaurants. Make sure what you choose fits your meal plan.

    You do not need to eat fast food at all. When you quit eating fast food, I guarantee you'll feel better, look better, and become a healthier person. Fast food actually makes me sick now. Just the taste of all the grease makes me sick. I love eating healthy - tastes better and feels better!

    Building muscle and burning fat requires weight lifting and cardiovascular exercise. You need to provide your body with the best fuel possible for those workouts. If you fail to provide your body with great fuel, you'll perform at far lower levels. Eat healthy and you will have high energy levels for pushing yourself in the gym. And that's how you make progress.

    Let's talk about Subway for a second. Most of the stuff you get in that place isn't good for you. The veggies are great, but that's about it! A grilled chicken salad packed with different veggies is a good choice. Stay away from most of the other stuff.

    Prepare your meals at home. It's easy to make fast and healthy meals at home. For example, I can fix a quick taco salad with lettuce, lean beef, fat free cheese, salsa, and fat free sour cream in less than 5 minutes. It's very easy to make quick, easy, and great tasting meals. All it takes is a little planning. That's it!

    Weight Loss. Why is everyone so fascinated with weight loss? When are people going to realize that weight loss is NOT important. What??? Let me say it again -- Weight Loss is not important.

    When you attempt to lose weight with most weight loss programs, you're going to be losing a combination of muscle mass, body fat, and water weight. Most programs cause you to lose tons of muscle mass, which is very bad. But people believe they were successful because they lost weight and they're really not.

    Weight loss is not important. The number on the scale is NOT IMPORTANT...

    Why do you care so much about that stupid number that shows up on the scale? Would you rather have a lower number on the scale or look great? That number on the scale may decrease but you're probably losing muscle mass. You DO NOT want to lose muscle mass. You want to lose body fat -- that's all.

    Muscle loss is bad. When you lose muscle, your metabolism slows and you must eat less food to simply maintain your current body weight. When you start to eat more food, you'll gain weight fast and that weight will come in the form of body fat. Lose muscle mass and in order to lose more weight, you'll have to eat less food.

    And that's what people end up doing -- they eat fewer calories each day until they trigger the starvation response from their bodies. When this happens, the body will react by holding onto all of its fat stores.

    Threaten your body and lose!

    Body fat is reserve energy and the body will hold onto it because it believes it is being threatened. The human body is made to survive and that's why it will begin to burn muscle for energy and hold onto body fat when threatened. People who starve themselves lose weight and they are happy. What they don't know, though, is all of that weight loss came in the form of muscle mass. And that is losing the war my friend.

    All of that weight loss will soon come back in the form of body fat. So in reality, you've replaced muscle mass with body fat... NOT GOOD. You look worse, feel worse, and if continued, health problems will soon arise.

    So, all of those weight loss diets out there are only hurting you. If they worked, wouldn't you see many more healthy, lean, and fit people walking around? Instead, the world gets fatter each and every day. And you can give all the credit to those weight loss programs that are supposed to be helping you.

    So what are you supposed to do to lose body fat and get REAL results?

    Instead of focusing on weight loss, you should be focusing on building muscle and burning body fat. Then, you'll get the body you want. Your body will look better and you'll feel better. No one cares about that stupid number on the scale. You don't carry a scale around and say, "Look what I weigh!" People look at your body -- not the number on the scale. So start building muscle and burning fat and STOP worrying about weight loss.

    The solution to your weight loss problems is a combination of weight lifting or strength training, a healthy diet, and aerobic exercise. If you learn how to combine those 3 components correctly, you'll be on the right track to a great looking and feeling body.
